HISTORY

St. Mary Catholic School was organized in 1867 through the efforts of Father Walsh and an immigrant congregation. The school has been blessed with good teachers from the laity and four different religious orders. Throughout the years the school has been an integral part of the faith community.

CURRICULUM

St. Mary Catholic School offers a Pre-Kindergarten program five afternoons a week. Grade K through Grade Four are basically self-contained while some areas of Grades Five through Eight are departmentalized.    The students are challenged in all subject areas including: Religion, Math, Spelling, English, Reading/Literature, Science, History/Social Studies, Music, Art, Health, and Physical Education.  At the K-2 levels, the phonics and penmanship programs are included in the curriculum.  Pre-Algebra is taught in Grade 6 while Grades 7-8 are taught course one and two of Algebra.

The  computer lab is accessible to all students along with classroom computers. Basic computer skills and educational technology are part of the Pre-K to Grade Three program.  Keyboarding and higher technology skills are taught in Grades 4 through 8.

Iowa Basic Skills Testing is administered to the students in Grades 2-8 during the fall semester of each year.  In addition, these grades are also given the Cognitive Abilities Test.  The students writing ability is tested in the Fifth grade.

ADMISSION

St Mary Catholic School grants each student regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. There is no discrimination on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and local programs, athletics and other school administered programs.

A Registration/Book/Technology Fee for each child to be enrolled is to be paid in full upon registration. Tuition payments for the ensuing school year are usually paid in 12 equal monthly installments, beginning in June.
